WinsHill
A Modern Adirondack Great Camp

Situated along a large cove with expansive easterly views of the northern basin of Lake Burton and mountain layers beyond, WinsHill offers the ultimate experience in relaxed, luxurious, mountain lake living. WinsHill reflects the talent and touch of the owner; a woman whose career as a designer and tastemaker has centered on a world renowned Relais & Chateaux boutique hotel, spa and lifestyle store. Her vision for WinsHill embodies the architecture and philosophy of classic Adirondack Great Camps with a fresh modern aesthetic. Enhanced by light minimalistic interiors, tall windows and doors frame trees, clouds and water creating a perfect blend of modern meets rustic for a casually elegant mountain lifestyle. WinsHill was designed to capture the subtle nuances of ever-changing light, shadow and seasons with nature becoming an integral part of the interior landscape of every room.

WinsHill Lifestyle
Life at WinsHill reflects many aspects of a particular and charming way of living defined as  "Adirondack Great Camp" culture. Beginning during the Gilded Age and into the early 20th Century, self-sufficient estates known as Great Camps, located along the lakeshores of the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York, were built as retreats where family and guests were entertained in sumptuous style that centered on time spent outdoors, enjoying locally prepared food, surrounded by natural beauty and great company.  In true Great Camp style, WinsHill's architecture is a melding of stone, bark and glass blending seamlessly into its private, wooded landscape. Rustic meets modern in its interior design, where traditionally heavy furnishings have given way to a creamy palette of comfy linen slip-covered furnishings that are both elegant and practical. WinsHill's charm lies in its ability to live intimately for two, or for twelve. While built as a single structure under one roof, the layout of the estate's four private master suites surrounding a common Great Hall suggests the classic Adirondack style of self-sufficient, multi-building complexes enjoying complete privacy from one another. Outdoor venue options abound with over 4,000 square feet of multi-level outdoor living spaces. From covered stone terraces to enclosed porches, outside living is possible for three seasons of the year. Private grottos with fans and daybeds encourage reading and napping, while treetop terraces are outfitted with conversation groupings suitable for cocktails or a game of cards. The gathering rooms adjoin these outdoor spaces through oversized French screened doors, so one always feels a connection to the outdoors. The preparation of simple yet lavish meals created from locally grown ingredients is a much-anticipated activity to be enjoyed by all in the spacious kitchen, accommodating the needs of many amateur cooks or of a private chef. A large custom dining table was purpose-built for family-style dining, where food is passed from bowls and platters placed directly on the table. The same privacy enjoyed in the main lodge continues at the waterfront with the rare luxury of its own tranquil cove, a treasured aspect of this property.  Life at WinsHill is all about recharging and re-connecting - with family, with friends, or with oneself. Everyone seems to find magic in this special place.

The Great Hall
The vaulted, two story Great Hall is comprised of a gathering room, dining room and kitchen with a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace at its center. The purposely distressed wood floors, log columns and poplar bark trim reflect classic Adirondack influences while soaring glass transoms capping two pairs of French doors in the gathering room and dining room bring the clouds, lake and trees into the airy spaces. Centered on the raised hearth fireplace, the gathering room features a mezzanine library balcony with views of the fireplace below and beyond to the lake and mountains. The U-shaped kitchen and its adjoining walk-in chef’s pantry with cappuccino bar features a black walnut topped center island, a stunning expansive picture window framed by 9 foot antique French shutters and all the amenities desired for simple family meals or to suit the needs of a private chef. The dining room, with built-in butler’s breakfront, wet bar and wine cave easily accommodates dinner for two to twelve. Both sets of French doors from the gathering room and the dining room lead to the Great Hall’s outdoor stone terrace that mirrors the interior spaces. An open terrace for alfresco dining and covered gathering space for evening cocktails and morning coffee are situated on opposite sides of a see-through stone fireplace for three seasons entertaining.

The Master Suites

Owl’s Nest, a one bedroom suite, is comprised of a living room, vaulted ceiling bedroom and ensuite bath with soaking tub, walk-in shower and attached walk-in closet. French doors in the living room, complete with its own wet bar, open onto a lakefront screened porch while matching doors in the bedroom open onto a large private terrace overlooking the lake. From its perch in the trees, Owl’s Nest’s terrace is divided into an uncovered sunning area and covered lounge area with easy access to a fitness and yoga studio on the same level.

Stone Cottage is a one bedroom suite accessed through its private covered sitting and dining terraces featuring a wood and stone barrel vaulted ceiling. While attached to the main lodge, the charm of this suite is in the solitude provided by a private entrance on its own private level. This  suite features a natural stone floor throughout and a living room centered on a massive two story stone fireplace flanked by French doors opening onto twin cantilevered balconies with overlooks of the lake. White-washed rough-sawn cedar planked walls and ceiling add to the modern farmhouse aesthetic. The wide, barnlike doors of the bedroom frame a view of the living room fireplace and lake from the bed. A galley with wet bar, wine cave and coffee station leads to the bathroom featuring a large walk-in white marble subway tile shower. Stone Cottage enjoys direct access to the fitness and yoga studio via a sunlit staircase on the level above.

Sunrise suite’s spacious vaulted ceiling bedroom and sitting area opens onto an expansive screened porch with easterly views of spectacular sunrises over the lake. For family or guests with a bit of outdoor adventure in mind, in season the screened porch of Sunrise can be repurposed to an outdoor bedroom. The ensuite bath features a corner soaking tub with lake and forest garden views, dual rainwater couples shower and large walk-in closet.

Forest, the most tranquil of the master suites, is comprised of two bedroom suites with ensuite baths and a rustic, cozy living room. The bedrooms enjoy views of the lake past the forest gardens and a natural stone stairway on the South side of the lodge. A stone fireplace and wet bar enhance Forest’s living room ambience along with views of the water through French doors that lead to its private stone grotto appointed with two oversized daybeds for reading and relaxing as well as a dining table. Forest’s covered terrace overlooks the boathouse and lake to the East and forest gardens to the South through its four elliptical stone arches. The Forest suite includes an additional room with ensuite bath originally designed for massage and spa. It has been repurposed to serve as a staff bedroom or for overflow guests, but could easily serve as a children’s bunkroom.

The Amenities
The details and amenities of WinsHill have been tailored to provide a true sybaritic experience for the owner, family and guests, yet not at the expense of casual living. The grounds of the estate have been landscaped with purpose in keeping with the simplicity, structure and privacy of the Camp’s aesthetic. Accessed directly from the lodge or by natural stone staircases through forest gardens on the North and South sides of the property, the boathouse is in a large, completely private cove on the West shore of the North basin of Lake Burton. The boathouse is flanked by a deepwater swim dock and a shallow, protected cove accessed by both stone and wood staircases – perfect for wading with children or launching kayaks and paddle boards. Additional amenities range from a fitness and yoga studio to the pleasing touch of Rocky Mountain Hardware door passage sets and Rohl bathroom faucets and fixtures. Infrastructure ranges from convenience laundries on each level as well as a commercial washer, dryer and press machine in the utility space, to an estate-wide, secure, commercial wireless network with satellite and cellular data backup. Mosquito Magnets deployed on both ends of the property ensure environmentally safe, mosquito-free outdoor activities.
